Our mission
Beyond Our Fields
Our mission trips to Guatemala are a reflection of our commitment to living our faith through humble service. Each year, we are thankful for the chance to work alongside the people there, offering our hands and hearts to support their needs. Whether we’re helping to build homes, providing essential supplies, or sharing moments of connection, our efforts are rooted in the desire to make a lasting difference. We’ve come to realize that we found a family in Guatemala, and we are honored to be a part of their journey.
Our Recent Trip
From July 13-22, we had the privilege of returning to Tejutla, San Marcos in Guatemala, to serve the communities of Las Tapias and Horizonte. As always, it felt like coming home.
During our time there, our team worked on a variety of projects. We helped run a medical clinic, where Ben worked in the makeshift pharmacy. After distributing medicines, he would sit and talk with each person, sharing in their struggles and praying with them. Meanwhile, Kim spent her mornings working with teachers in local schools, and in the afternoons she kept children entertained while their parents visited the clinic. One of the highlights of the trip was seeing the church we helped lay the footers for three years ago finally completed. We celebrated by cutting the ribbon and holding the very first service in that building–it was an emotional and powerful moment, to see our work come full circle like that.
One of the most memorable experiences was when we were asked to go door-to-door, inviting people to the clinic. We were a little nervous, stepping far outside our comfort zones, but we obliged.
As we went home to home, several patterns stood out to us:
- Many homes only had one lightbulb, if any at all.
- Several children were at home because they had quit school to work and support their families.
- Every home welcomed us with open arms. They pulled out chairs–often plastic stools or lawn chairs–and offered us food and drink without hesitation. We were treated as cherished guests, even before we explained why we were there… even in homes where people didn’t necessarily believe in what we were sharing. The hospitality was truly mind-blowing.
- One family, before they knew our intentions, told us they knew why we were there. They said it was clear we were doing God’s work–that we looked like angels.
It’s moments like these that remind us of why we answer the call. We pray that the love of Jesus was felt everywhere we went. Some Guatemalans accepted Christ, while others may still be on their journey, but we know seeds of faith were planted. We leave a piece of our hearts in Guatemala every time we go, and we’re already looking forward to returning next year; our connection with the Tejutla Church is a special one, and we’re committed to serving this beautiful community for years to come.
